According to Cagematch.com, El Generico wrestled 58 matches in the year 2006 & iโve watched as many as i could find on the internet (34). So here is my kinda in depth review/breakdown of the El Generico in 2006

General
So for starters i want to name of his best performances in my opinion, this isnโt his best matches but the matches heโs shined the most in
- vs BLKOUT vs H8Club CZW Prelude to Violence
- Justice Pain CZW When 2 Worlds Collide
- Pac PWG All Star Weekend
El Generico in 2006 wasnโt as polished as he was later on obviously, but he was still really good, probably the most athletic he ever was, just as good as a seller as he is today & his moveset was overall fun & exciting to watch. His best work came with the likes of Pac & Kevin Steen, having a match with either one of them involved 13/58 times. Pac & Steen would become probably his best 2 rivals so this was really great to see early on in his career

In Ring Work
His work year round was good to really good as he established himself as one of the best wrestlers on the independent scene but hereโs my T10
- vs Pac PWG All Star Weekend
- vs The Briscoes PWG Enchantment Under the Sea
- vs Los Luchas PWG All Star Weekend CrazyMania 3
- vs Arrogance PWG Beyond the Thunder
- vs Pac wXw Lightweight Tourney
- vs Motor City Machine Guns PWG PWG Self-Titled
- vs Chris Sabin & Kevin Steem PWG From Parts Well Known
- vs Justice Pain CZW W2WC
- vs Kevin Steen PWG European Tour England
- BLKOUT & H8Club
- vs Chris Bosh IWA Ted Petty Invitational
Were all his matches must watch? no, but seeing his work before being the man we love today was really cool, especially since he was and still is really good, so no you donโt have to go out your way to watch all of these but donโt sleep on any of them either.
His negatives werent glaring and easy to just ignore because of the fun moments you see but here were some of them,
- some matches have really slow builds
- some matches felt very formulaic
- never really had an all timer match this year
Matches to avoid (boring/bad/short)
- vs Low-Ki Ted Petty Invitational
- vs Ruckus Gung Ho Debut Show
- vs Delirious PWG BOLA
Final Thoughts
So my final thought is this, Sami has always been really really good and is a legend in my book so seeing him work his way up the business was really cool to see from getting squashed and fighting for a contract to ROH & having great matches in gyms with ~ 50 people it was an overall really fun year to review/watch was an all time year like โ22 Mox? no. but if you would like to see him just have really good matches as a young not as polished wrestler then go and check some matches out.
overall year end review grade โข C+
